ShareIT

ShareIT is an in-house tool developed by SPARTA for customers that have a need to share data in a Web-based environment over the Internet or an intranet. ShareIT provides a collaborative virtual workspace for geographically separated groups using Internet protocols and your web browser. Once ShareIT is installed on an Internet or intranet server, only browser software is necessary to use ShareIT, no other software is required.

ShareIT is modular by design, so other web-based applications can easily be added to improve the capabilities. ShareIT is developed with HTML, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, and Java. It uses Internet Information Server as the web server and is database driven, able to use Access, SQL Server, or Oracle as the backend database. The desired database primarily depends on your legacy database applications or the expected growth of the system. ShareIT is continuously being enhanced for our current customer base. Every installed copy has a unique look and feel because ShareIT was designed to allow administrators to customize it by changing text, buttons, and logos. You also see different views based on the content that you have permissions to access. All modules can be set for no-access, read-only access, or read/write access. The administrator sets these permissions with a robust administration utility that is delivered with the product.

The following is a list of the core ShareIT modules and a brief description of their features:

Info Center - The InfoCenter module provides a daily newspaper feature for news and other important announcements. It provides a frequently asked questions section to allow you to search for answers to commonly asked questions and it provides a drop down list that contains web addresses for sites that are frequently accessed.

Calendar - The Calendar module allows multiple calendars to be created, these calendars can be viewed separately or "rolled-up" into a single view. You can associate files to calendar events which ensures that everyone is reviewing the same file. You can specify whether or not you want events from other calendars or ShareIT modules to display on the main calendar. Users who have been invited to attend a calendar meeting will automatically receive an email message containing all information about the event. An add-on to the Calendar module allows you to synchronize your personal Outlook calendars with Exchange public folders. You can then use the ShareIT calendar to view information from the Exchange public folder.

Library - The Library module provides a central repository for any type of files. You can upload or download files based on permissions. You can easily perform full-text searches on all files within the library. You can send email recipients links to files rather than transmitting actual files. This enhances security because email messages do not contain the actual file, only a link to the file. Users who receive a forwarded email message still have to have permission to access the file. It significantly reduces the amount of data sent to and from the email servers since only a link to the file is being sent and not multiple copies of the file to multiple people. It also enhances configuration control since all users are reading from the same file.

The administrator can assign read, write, rename, and delete permissions for both folders and files contained in the library as well as create folder and move file permissions. Any combination of these permissions can be set for any of the folders in the Library module.

RoadMap - The RoadMap module provides a capability for users to quickly generate schedules. RoadMap is a Java-based scheduling utility that assists with planning and management by organization or function. Users are able to view, edit, and work from the same schedule.

Action Items - The Action Items module provides a capability to assign and track tasks. After the tasks are entered into the system, an email message will be generated and sent to the users. Users will have the opportunity to accept or reject the task and will be able to log the completion status. Tasks can also be set to show up on any of the calendars.

IPT/Workgroup - The IPT/Workgroup module provides a specially designed tool that permits IPTs/Workgroups to focus on Tasks/Projects. It allows you to create segmented working environments consisting of any ShareIT modules. The IPT/Workgroup modules are independent from one another and can be completely hidden from specified users.
