Modeling & Simulation
Modeling and simulation has always played a critical role in analyzing, planning, and designing military systems. In the past 15 years, it has also taken on added importance in training for those systems. From the highest levels of missions and campaigns to the lower levels of individual systems and warfighters, modeling and simulation has provided a tool to look at the future. SPARTA's work with missile defense--building capabilities that have never existed before--has led us to become expert in all these applications
JNIC
The Joint National Integration Center (JNIC) is a center of MDA's modeling and simulation efforts. Operational and technological concepts are tested and analyzed by SPARTA staff under the JNIC Integration Center Research and Development Contractor (ICRDC) program, for which we provide the chief analyst. We led the development of Wargame 2000, the framework for future MDA wargames and exercises. For the IMD battle management/command, control, and communications (BM/C3) Program, we integrated and tested existing BM/C3 legacy software in a JNIC testbed. We also led the development of a centralized modeling and simulation repository for the IMD Simulation Support Center, one of the newest activities at the JNIC. The JNIC's Human in Control Testbed (HICTB) is used for the development of concepts of operations, IMD battle staff training, and proof-of-concept demonstrations. SPARTA has helped the JNIC develop a quick-reaction capability for analysis of IMD architectures. The BM/C3 Element Support Center, developed by a team including SPARTA personnel, allows command and control prototypes to be evaluated as they are linked both to deployed systems and to systems simulated at the JNIC.
